The Onsen was a treat, location very quite yet accessible and easy to get to famous sites and central Kyoto. Easy access to the river and Gion District. The staff were super friendly and helpful.

It was authentic and welcoming to foreigners - I didn't feel anything against me, even though I know there are rules and norms that tourists often flout. But they are nice enough to have signs and messages in English to guide tourists along. Location was another plus, it's right in the middle of a neighbourhood with all the great food and cafes and just a short walk to the downtown area and shopping streets. Kids to the staff too, who are professional and even went to help with luggage. When I tried to help, they said that it's part of their job - I should rest since I'm on holiday 👏

We wanted a traditional Japanese experience in Kyoto, and that we got. The location is wonderful and the staff is so friendly! Had a nice matcha on arrival and the staff was very nice showing us through. However there were a few items which could’ve made the experience exceptional or great rather than just good. 1) There was a lot of light coming in through the window - conscious we are light(er) sleepers but as you can see in my picture below taken at 10:30PM this was as dark as it got until the sun came up and again this meant an early wake up. 2) The staff was wonderful and always so nice and friendly - the level of English sometimes causing slight issues but nothing that translate couldn’t solve. 3) The bedding - futon style, is expectedly not the most comfortable however our bigger issue was how hard and uncomfortable the pillows were. Again a personal preference but a choice would’ve further justified the price paid.
