3 bedroom apartments in Barcelona cater for groups or families of 5, 6, 7 and sometimes up to 8 guests. A typical configuration would be two guests per room for comfortable sleeping of up to 6 guests. Sofa-beds or roll-away bed options are available at some hotels which can increase the maximum number of guests from 6 to up to 7 or 8 (no comment on how comfy the sofa is, it varies a lot!)
For families with more than the average 2.2 kids (that's old, it's 1.8 kids per family today) 3 bedroom apartments are a great option, or the only option when compared to splitting the family up to fit into the standard hotel room.
Check the room details for the extras that you get in large 3 bedroom apartments. Many 3 bedroom apartments have features such as private balconies, full kitchens and laundry facilities and separate lounge rooms or living areas. Also bedding is often flexible, often you can request your preferred bedding configuration at the time of booking.
If you can split the group, keep in mind that using the hotel standard '2 guests per room' and getting 2 or more rooms will open up many more options of where you can stay.
