Two of us booked this excellent property as a base to explore the walks around Zwiesel and the Bayerische Wald during June. Before we arrived, we received frequent communication from the owner, Alexander who helped us purchase two GUTI tickets, enabling us to travel around the area and discounted rates on the local trains and buses. On arrival his father, Michael picked us up from the station (1 mile away) and pointed out the local supermarket, bars and restaurants before showing us around the property. Alex’s large apartment is well looked after and excellent value for money. The beds were clean and comfortable, the balcony was a suntrap (when the sun shone), the kitchen was well-stocked with appliances and the bathroom had an excellent shower and two sinks. There were several leaflets and guides provided and they even left us two bottles of local beer to enjoy. If you are walking in the area, there are various paths between stations that are well worth exploring, especially when you can take the hourly little green train back again ! All in all, a definite ‘find’ and a place we would be happy to return to at any time of the year. One tip : travelling across the border to the Czech Republic is a ‘must’, if only to appreciate the border changes since the fall of the ‘Iron Curtain’ and much cheaper restaurants and bars. Two stops on the rail line to Bayerisch Eisenstein (20 mins) and then one stop on the connecting Czech train to Železná Ruda (10 mins)
