Very comfortable room with excellent bathroom. Great views of Toledo from the balcony. Took about 20 minutes to walk into Toledo so did not need to drive in which was a bonus.

You will find Hostal Calderón de la Barca just as you enter Zalamea from the north, opposite Plaza Calderón de la Barca. There is street parking in the plaza and I parked right next to the hotel. The hotel rooms are above a very typical town centre bar/restaurant with a great atmosphere both in the bar and the outside street terrace. There is a separate entrance to the bedrooms next to the bar but there was no lift to my second floor room. The single room was adequate and, with a couple of little but acceptable quirks, had everything required. There was a view over the large rear terrace and rooftops. My evening meal was interesting because the tapas of lomo especial and queso de serena which I thought I had ordered arrived as rather large bocadillos. The croquetas caseras de jamón was tapas size but arrived with patatas fritas. Needless to say, I needed an extra copa de tinto to help me through all that and, even then, I didn’t quite manage it. I did however manage the usual café and tostada con tomate y aceite in the morning. This is probably not a place for the discerning northern European traveller but the very traditional look of the place and the feel to the whole evening meant that it was right up my street and I enjoyed my stay.
