Traveller reviews

“Way above expectation!”

Needing somewhere to stay for a couple of days relaxation during the long journey south from Calais, we chose Le Jardin Secret. It is only about 45 mins away from the main A6 approximately due west of Lyon. Yzeron is kind of in the middle of nowhere but in beautiful wooded hills and valleys, perfect for walking and visiting for a short break. As soon as we arrived at Le Jardin Secret we were made most welcome by the hosts Christopher and Cathi. Christophe is full of old world charm and politeness, a fine sense of humour, good English and nothing is too much trouble. Cathi is a fine cook of preserves and an excellent breakfast is served with honey from their own bee hives. The garden is lovely and the house, an old 18th century mill has been respectfully renovated and has a lovely Wisteria attached to it. Within the town there are a couple of reasonable restaurants and there is a lovely cafe/bar by the nearby small lake for refreshment or lunch. We enjoyed our stay and will hope to return. I forgot to mention that there s a lovely elderly large black dog and that our two miniature dachshunds were nicely tolerated even though they bark a little too much!

“Wish we could have stayed longer, perfect retreat and place to relax.”

Wonderful house, very friendly hosts and the breakfast was simply incredible.

“Loved it”

The house is an older building and has ongoing updating. The decor choice is very quirky in setting with the building some industrial items used. Christophe and Cathy were perfect hosts. Their dog also welcoming But cool but we enjoyed drinks in the garden And the meal Christophe cooked was superb. Much if the dinner and breakfast came from the Secret Garden home grown. And local produce used. It was good value for money. We paid similar for a four course meal here to just one course at the previous place we had stayed. We will return

“Don't miss this historic home (+ table d'hôte!) w/ modern renos, warm hosts, great cycling!”

This B&B is extraordinary – the home, the hosts, the garden, the food, everything exceeded our expectations. We stayed for four nights and were so glad to make this our home for the weekend. We are cyclists and found the biking in the area (road, gravel, mountain biking) to be top notch – we are amazed this is not more of a cycling destination given how beautiful the surroundings and how vast the trail network is. Christophe and Cathy (and dog Mado!) could not have been more welcoming – they are warm, kind, and full of local recommendations. Do not miss the table d'hôte – Christophe and Cathy cooked up some of the best food we've had on our travels! They were also very welcoming of our dog and had storage for our bikes. We could not recommend this B&B more highly!
