Quiet location in small town. There are several entrances to the lagoon about 5 blocks away, including the excellent Rancho Escondido (where river meets the lagoon). Place has 4 rooms, no staff on site (they will meet you or give code for key). There are hammocks and a basic kitchen. Very few restaurants in town, mostly barbeque.

Clean, comfortable bed, good AC, small number of rental units in a lockable walled compound with covered courtyard and shared outdoor kitchen. Quiet neighborhood on secondary street. Sergio the site manager lives across the street and really took care of us. He fixed a toilet problem quickly and provided a hot/cold filtered water dispenser for a nominal 40 pesos fee. He also provided free good quality ground coffee and gave us access to a second fridge when the one in the outdoor kitchen wasn't working. We brought our own fry pan which was lucky since cookware and utensils were few. Sergio replaced the gas stove top's empty propane tank quickly. He kept the courtyard area very tidy. Xul-Ha is a small mainly undeveloped village. Best to know some Spanish. There are several 'beach clubs' with 30-50 pesos day fees for access to swimming in Lake Bacalar.
