Our stay at Reflections Eco-Reserve was absolutely amazing. It was the best accommodation we had on our trip to South Africa. I travelled with my kids (3 and 8) and my mother, and we all loved this place. Tim and Angelique were fantastic hosts, warmly welcoming us into their home. They have quite literally created this reserve—where there was once nothing, there is now a beautiful, thriving property with nearly 200 bird species recorded. The property is located by a lake, and you have the chance to observe birds from dedicated viewing platforms. It is also possible to go for a hike in the area; there is a walking trail of about 3 km. You can see various animals as well. Lots of turtles, which made the children very happy. This place is a birder’s paradise. In one morning, you can easily spot 60–80 species. Tim, being a birder himself, took me out birding on two mornings—an excellent experience. One morning we explored the area around the guesthouse; the other morning we went to the forest and surrounding fields. The birding was outstanding. I added several lifers and saw and heard many endemics as well. The accommodation itself is very nice. There were two bedrooms downstairs (and additional sleeping space upstairs), two bathrooms, an indoor and an outdoor shower, a well-equipped kitchen/living area, and a large terrace, which was our favourite. There was also bird food provided to put out for the birds. You can read the Birdlife magazine and there are games and books for children, too. Breakfast was incredible, prepared by Angelique: fresh fruit, cheese, prosciutto, freshly baked croissants and pancakes, and homemade cheesecake—absolutely delicious.

A beautiful location surrounded by nature. The cottage is spacious, clean, and practically furnished. Tim is a fantastic host who took us birdwatching twice. Once on the property itself, where there is so much to see, and he knows something interesting about every single detail. He also took me into the mountains early in the morning for birdwatching, where, thanks to his endless knowledge and birding skills, we saw some truly wonderful things — including the hard-to-spot Knysna Warbler. We had a truly exceptional time beyond expectations, and I hope to be able to return again soon.

This is a beautiful place to unwind and reconnect with the natural world. The wildlife is wonderful and you can feel the love and care that has gone into creating such a unique place. The homemade breakfasts were such a treat and we really appreciated Angelique sharing her knowledge with us. A brilliant place for children too!

My wife and I had two nights here in a chalet. Tim and Angelique were fantastic hosts from the minute we arrived. We love nature, so location was just perfect for us. Our chalet had all the amenities/home comforts you would need (just bring your own food/drink). Packed breakfast provided if going out very early. The 80-hectare reserve is exclusive to residents. There was one other group resident in a neighbouring chalet when we were there. Chalets are well spread out affording privacy and quiet; perfect for watching nature and relaxing. Tim was incredibly helpful to me as I am an overseas birder, and went out of his way to ensure that we and the other group got lots of opportunities to see as many of the local bird species as possible. What a great experience in addition to staying here. The last morning, we had an outstanding fresh breakfast delivered to us from Angelique which we ate sat on the veranda. All in all, a fantastic place. Highly recommended.
