Plantation Inn is an incredible place to stay. Weligama is a popular surf town with many accommodation options, but what makes Plantation Inn truly special is its peaceful location away from the noisy centre and busy streets. The house is set on a green hill with breathtaking views of the ocean, the town, and the surrounding hills. The sunrises are stunning, and every morning I could check the surf directly from my bedroom. If you are lucky, you may even spot some local wildlife. The terrace is spacious and perfect for relaxing or exercising. Although the house is slightly outside the centre, it is very easy to get around. You can rent a scooter, get a tuk-tuk or simply walk, which is what I chose to do. Walking allowed me to experience more of the local life and encounter even more wildlife along the way. The hosts are exceptionally kind, welcoming, and helpful. Nothing is ever a problem for them—they always do their best to find a solution. They assisted me in organising airport transfer and helped arrange a local tuk-tuk driver who took me to nearby surf spots every day. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable, with a great bed, sofa, coffee table, fridge, kettle, and even a desk for working if needed. Air conditioning is essential in this climate, and theirs worked perfectly and was very clean, which is not always the case. I was also lucky enough to visit during mango season and had the chance to try fruit from the owners’ mango tree — so sweet and juicy! I truly hope to come back, and when I do, I will definitely stay here again.
