Innes “Spotlessly clean, traditional Swiss hotel near the centre of town, with good-sized rooms.”

Traditional, wooden-panelling throughout, hotel near the centre of the (not very big) town. About 10 mins walk from the station and 15 mins walk from the lake. Walenstadt itself has a spectacular setting, surrounded by impressive mountains rising vertically all around, and a beautiful large and deep (so cold) lake. There's a good Italian restaurant (where we ate), a traditional Swiss restaurant and a beer hall (not open when we were in town) very near the hotel (< 50m). Our room (normal double) was spacious with good views; our daughters' room (a budget double) more compact, with sloping ceilings, on the top floor. So ask for a room NOT on the top floor. Everything was spotlessly clean and the showers in both rooms had good pressure. The continental breakfast was provided to match our group size (i.e. not an ad libitum buffet) but certainly very adequate, with fruit (delicious cherries and raspberries), yoghourts, croissants, bread, cheese, ham, and coffee/tea/hot-chocolate made to order.

This was the perfect base for our walk to Paxmal. Our host was very friendly and helpful helping us out with plenty of walking maps of the area, and providing us a fantastic breakfast on both mornings of our stay.

Energy of the land owner, cleanness, help to bring up my luggage, possibility to leave it until the evening on day of departure, breakfast choice and quality, variety of seasonal fruits, calm, totally renovated bathroom, possibility to store bicycle
