We stayed here for 2 nights end of June. This is a super quiet BnB in the middle of Forestra d'Umbra (forest of shadows), and it was perfect for exploring the forest by foot. Lots of walking routes of different lengths directly from the house. It was such a lovely break from the summer sun to be in the forest for a couple of days. Dinner was delicious and very reasonably priced. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful despite our terrible Italian skills! The BnB is in the middle of the forest so does require a car to get to it. There are nearby towns that you can visit by car, including the pretty Monte Sant'Angelo. I had a lot of fun driving the winding forest roads! The rooms were beautiful, clean, and cool. As with everywhere in Italy, bring a few € cash for the tourist tax. I can't really think of anything that needed improvement, hence the top ratings. Obviously, don't come here if you want a party or a pool, but it's perfect for a quiet forest escape in a beautiful setting.

After a hectic tour around Puglia in baking heat, it was a joy to savour the peace and tranquility of the Foresta Umbra. There is a huge variety of walks that can be undertaken using the Cantoniera as a base. The building is actually a very well renovated ANAS roadhouse with beautiful, spacious rooms. Our hosts, Sig. Michele, his wife Laura and their son, Antonio were very welcoming and very friendly, justly proud of what they have achieved. A special mention to Valeria our waitress who was so very efficient and patient with all sorts of visitors.
