My fiancée and I recently spent three nights at Villa Campestri, drawn by its idyllic location and charming Tuscan setting. While the estate itself is undeniably beautiful, our overall experience was unfortunately far from what one might expect from a hotel that proudly presents itself as a four-star property. The most disappointing aspect of our stay was the staff – particularly the receptionist, who regrettably made us feel anything but welcome. A simple question regarding the possibility of using a drying rack for our wet swimsuits was met with the dismissive remark: “What a strange request.” What followed was not only an unpleasant discussion that day but also a follow-up the next day – initiated not by us, but by the same staff member. Evidently, we were not alone in facing this issue, as we noticed other guests improvising and hanging their clothes outside their rooms. The explanation given was that drying racks would “ruin the image of the hotel” – a rather troubling stance that seems to prioritize aesthetics over guest comfort. While the pool is cleaned regularly, we were surprised by the amount of insects in the water – not uncommon in the countryside, perhaps, but worth mentioning. At dinner, the service was handled mostly by very young and clearly inexperienced staff. Though polite, their lack of training and confidence did not match the standard one would reasonably expect from a four-star establishment. Ironically, the receptionist felt the need to remind us of the hotel’s four-star status on more than one occasion – a defensive stance rather than a reflection of actual service quality. On a more positive note, the breakfast staff were attentive, courteous, and professional – easily the highlight of the hotel’s service. The rooms themselves were nicely decorated and comfortable in design, but cleaning standards were lacking. For instance, the bathroom faucet detached multiple times, indicating poor maintenance.

The villa was like fairytale. Location, view, food - everything was on the highest level! We also ordered the dinner - it was fantastic and very delicious. The pool with amazing view on mountains. Breakfast was not so big, but everything was super delicious and handmade.

The location is just amazing. Stunning views, pure nature, beautiful villa and huge parking. Rooms are big and super clean. Excellent food. All the people working there are incredibly nice. The cooking class was a cherry on top.
