Traveller reviews

“A special house with special hosts. Felt like coming home. We loved every minute of it.”

Loved the fact that it was located at a remote location. There’s a tap outside the house which provides fresh mineral high quality water. It was a real treat to drink it at the end of the day.

“Amazing place to enjoy the Savoy Alps and the company of great hosts”

I'm not going to go into details about everything, because a lot of things, like the great breakfast, have already been mentioned in other reviews, but I do have to repeat that Marielle and Daniel are absolutely wonderful hosts! I had a great stay here for slightly over a week, which was planned as a cycling vacation during an event I participated in. Other than that the location is amazing for cycling (and hiking too), the hosts accompanied me beyond expecation. For instance, they arranged with their neighbour that I could leave my bike there so I did not have to carry it up and down the steep rocky entrance road after and before rides. The day before the big event, when I had to be careful about my nutrition, Marielle took that into account so I had a fitting pre-race meal (I also had dinner there some other days, which was also great). Daniel went as far as to even bring me to the start of the cycling event in Albertville and picked me up afterwards. That was also not the only time he helped me with transport. For instance, later that week, when I wanted to ride to the top of Col du Glandon, Daniel brought me a bit closer which saved me 30km of a hilly ride and even picked me up afterwards at the start of Ugine, which saved me from having to ride up for about 30 mins more with how exhausted my legs were. For the included pictures, 1 of them is quite standard of the amazing view there with the cottage in view for a bit. The other pictures are a bit different. One of them is the view from just hiking up the trail from their terrain for like 4 or 5 km so see the other side of the hill, one of them is Daniel (in the yellow shirt) even cheering me on during the cycling event and another is after taking Marielle's advice for a cycling route up the Col de l'Arpettaz, which had an amazing view of the Mont Blanc about 70% up and a partial view at the restaurant at the top. Thanks for the great time Marielle and Daniel!

Best hosts. Wonderful view on the mountains. If you want to drop your bags at a beautiful end of the world corner... this is the place to chose!

“Perfect gite for those looking for something a little bit special & different.”

Traditional Savoyarde house dating back to C19th. Situated on its own up the mountain ~1km above Ugine. Not the easiest to find, getting there is part of the experience. The final part is an unsurfaced road that might be impassable in the snow and needs a 4x4. The hosts, Daniel & Marielle are welcoming and no doubt are used to guests struggling to find the location. Just make sure that you have their telephone number to hand & they will come and escort you if (and when) you get lost. Very comfortable, lovely views and wonderfully decorated & furnished. Traditional French breakfast which I took with Marielle. Home made jam and bread. Excellent opportunity to practice my very rusty spoken French.
