This review is written not from myself but from my partner: Overlooking the rolling hills and vineyards of Tuscany from our beautiful old Tuscan villa, with its original wooden beams and concrete floors — and what I’m fairly sure is the original radiator too. The first night was peaceful and quiet, as we were the only ones here. The crisp autumn air and the sound of birds were our only company, along with a myriad of large bees buzzing around the rose garden and our heads as I sat outside sipping my morning tea in the Tuscan sun. The receptionist, the grandson of the original owner, represents the third generation of a family business that once seemed full of love but is now showing signs of age and neglect. The twenty-something gardener-turned-receptionist, who informed us he’d forgotten to give us our welcome package (provided to all guests staying longer than a week), made up for it with a quick drive next door to his uncle’s winery to grab us a bottle of wine instead — a very tasty bottle of red, I must add. Thanks for reading Beyond the Travel Brochures! Was he the same one who organised the quick DIY fix on the toilet seat? Possibly. Swapping the upstairs one for the downstairs was a genius idea in theory. In execution, however — since they are completely different sizes — it has created more of a hazard than the original broken seat. The toilet, once flushed, runs on for as long as an old Friends episode that never seems to end. The thick concrete walls, which hold in the heat, might have you believe they’d also contain sound — but you’d be wrong. The Indian family who arrived at 11:30 p.m. last night could be heard as though they were sitting right next to me in bed. And it wasn’t a quiet bedtime story they were telling, but more of a full-blown Bollywood movie. The shower appears to be as old as the original owner, and the mould and mildew around the door suggest the cleaning standard of a university share house on chore day.

The property, the hosts and the pool were very nice. We felt warmly welcomed by the family running this place on their own. They are flexible and that made it very pleasant for a spontaneous choice of having breakfast or not. Late check out wasn't a problem as well.

A nice place to stay in Tuscany countryside. Great facilities with large oudoor areas and a tennis court, and swimming pool included. Bordering to wine farms and olive trees on all sides.
