Casa Barr is located in the small and quiet fishing village of Trafaria, just across the bridge from Lisbon. Here, you get to experience the real Portugal, far from the tourist crowds, with charming local restaurants where you can dine alongside the locals – a truly homely experience. The rooms are mostly spacious and of a high standard. The hotel also features a small pool and a relaxing outdoor area, perfect for unwinding. The owners maintain a peaceful atmosphere, making it easy to truly relax. The location is also very convenient: the ferry terminal is just a few blocks away and takes you to Belém in about 20–30 minutes. Alternatively, an Uber ride to Lisbon takes around 15 minutes and is reasonably priced. We also visited the beachfront along Costa da Caparica, known for its endless golden sands and laid-back vibe – definitely worth a visit. All in all, Casa Barr is an ideal choice for those seeking peace, comfort, and authentic experiences close to Lisbon. A special thanks to Pedro for being so kind and accommodating us in a more suitable room once he realized we were staying for 10 days – it made a big difference to our experience!

Absolutely gorgeous little hotel that feels more like a home away from home. From the minute you enter you feel peaceful, the rooms are spacious with good AC, a large flat screen TV featuring loads of English film and TV channels, and there's a small fridge for drinks. I was shocked to see another recent visitor give them a 1/10 rating because everything she wrote was the opposite of my experience, it was simple to get in and out with a code and buzzer, there was no problem with bringing leftovers/snacks/drinks back, and I was given plates and glasses whenever needed. The pool was lovely and clean and a great area to sunbathe (usually between 11-5pm whilst the sun is overhead), then you can walk 2 minutes to the beach areas nearby for the rest of the day. The hotel was very nice and quiet with no overbearing level of staff or other visitors, felt more like being at home, but with a pool and better weather. The manager Pedro was an absolute gentleman from start to finish, I was lucky enough to bump into him at the amazing (and crazily cheap) 'Flavours on the Corner' restaurant around the corner, and had the pleasure of him joining me for dinner and a good chat. Really lovely guy, I felt like I was visiting a cool Portuguese uncle 😂. The area of Trafaria is a lovely, sleepy quiet town, but with enough places to keep you well fed and stocked up on fresh fruits, drinks etc in the local stores. A short ferry away from Lisbon for €2 or a cheap Uber, but so much more peaceful and less hectic. The local restaurant quality is so high too, check out Casa Ideal for the best Octopus (and various seafood) ever, Flavours on the Corner (Sabores2) 3 courses, wine and coffee for €10-14, and Vilalvense bakery for delicious soft lunch rolls/bread cooked in a wood fired oven, as well as delicious Pastel de Nata.
