“Excellent hospital at a traditional ryokan well situated with free bonus yakuta and photoshoot!”
14 Jun 2025
Upon arrival head directly outside and grab one of the free shuttles buses that will drop you off at your ryokan. We stayed at Morizuya. His family has been running a ryokan for over a hundred years! At 3pm check-in you will be given yakuta (a summer kimono) to borrow for your stay. The staff will help dress you, and then you will be offered a free photoshoot in front of the inn. The inn owner saw me take a lot of photos of my daughter and offered to take more of us along the river and on the nearby bridge. We set off to explore some of the town onsens. Note that one of them tends to be closed daily, so if your aim is to visit all ask him which ones are closed which days of your stay. Carry your stamp book, because each onsen has their own stamp. Morizuya also has their own stamp! In between onsens we enjoyed so much fantastic food. We paid for breakfast which was an amazing experience. Breakfast was different both days. We opted not to pay for full-board; I feared my child was unlikely to eat a full omakase dinner. Instead we went to the yakiniku and had the most amazing tajima beef. It put the rest of the beef on our trip in Japan to shame. I wish we had discovered the place earlier and eaten there both nights.

“Best Place Ever!”
09 Jun 2025
Everything! This was the best place I have ever visited! The beautiful Ryokan, the very charming host, the enviable location, and the exquisite onsen baths in and out of the hotel. Everything was excellent! My wife and I were first greeted by Hachi-san, the eighth generation owner of this century old inn. The history was palpable, made all the more pleasant by the cleanliness and modern amenities in our very comfortable room. Hachi-san took our luggage and guided us to the baths. Both onsens were beautiful, hygienic and superbly relaxing. They were available in the morning as shared baths, followed by afternoon-evening sessions as private baths. If the onsens were available, you could lock it for your personal use. We were then brought to the kimono boutique filled with vibrant colours and haute designs. After being outfitted by an experienced tailor, we attended the tea ceremony in the wood-lined dining room. We were especially honoured to have been served by Hachi-san's mother, an expert of matcha hospitality. While we opted only for the breakfast meal (there were excellent restaurants nearby), the morning fare was the pinnacle of Japanese cuisine. The ingredients were local and morning fresh. The choices were diverse yet complemented each other exceedingly well. And our serving staff were more than accommodating in attending to all our needs. A final word on the location. The Ryokan was situated at the heart of Kinosaki Onsen. Two gorgeous public onsens enclosed the inn, with shops and restaurants mere steps away from the front entrance. Despite the central location, our room was surprisingly quiet even when the windows were opened to allow in the cool evening breeze. Morizuya was an absolute gem in the treasure that is Kinosaki. The vibe was most splendid and perfect for all weary souls looking to rest and relax on their cool tatami floors and in their "atsui" healing waters.

“Superb”

Everything was perfect. The place was beautiful and our host was the best you can have, he took incredible pictures of us weraring yukatas and was aways so welcoming and nice. The private onsen was amazing too!

“5 star service and lovely town”
08 Jun 2025
I loved staying at my first ryokan. I wanted to go to an onsen town to experience the hot springs and researched kinosaki. The small little town is walkable. The property is only 10 mins by foot, but I had luggage so took the free shuttle bus. They let me use luggage storage before check in. I took the half board option of dinner and breakfast. Was served an incredible restaurant quality meal, sampling the local crab and meat delights. My room was big compared to the matchbox hotels I was staying at. I slept well on the futon. The property has its own private onsen where guests can bath privately alone. There was some noises from my neighbours at night but I slept through the night. Public baths are open from 7am so I took went before being served breakfast. The owner kindly took guests back to the station by car. I received 5 star service by all the staff even with the ones that didn’t speak English well. Would come back again and stay longer.
