Our stay at Gurra Family Guesthouse in the breathtaking Albanian Alps was truly memorable. The guesthouse is beautifully located along the newly built mountain road from Shkodra — a scenic and fairly easy drive, though it can get a bit narrow when facing oncoming traffic. Despite this, the house is very accessible, with a short gravel road leading up to it that’s manageable even with a small car. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with functioning, reliable Wi-Fi and warm hospitality. Renovations were underway during our visit, promising even more space and comfort in the future. While this meant a slightly limited menu, it had absolutely no negative impact — every meal we had was freshly prepared and incredibly tasty. The breakfast deserves special mention, made with local ingredients like eggs from their own hens and homemade jam from the village. Though some renovation noise was noticeable during the day, it didn’t disturb us at all, as we were mostly out hiking. We didn’t ask for a discount, but at checkout, we were surprised with a 20-euro discount, about 10% of our total, given spontaneously as a kind gesture — something we found exceptionally generous. In the evenings, there were occasional short power outages, affecting the whole village. However, the guesthouse has its own backup generator, ensuring that essentials like refrigeration and lighting continued to function without issue. The local staff and hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel like part of the family. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the house every day, and spent cozy evenings by the fireplace in the restaurant, sharing stories and enjoying the atmosphere. A peaceful, authentic, and heartwarming experience — we’ll definitely be coming back!
