Staying here truly feels like living with a local family. The four of them are so thoughtful and always make sure you’re well taken care of, never letting you go hungry. Since this area is quite touristy, you’ll often hear all kinds of prices being offered, but this host is genuinely honest and provides a very fair rate. If you’re looking for locals who will treat you with sincerity and genuine care, this is the perfect place.

I had pre-booked my first night in India. I was looking for a nice houseboat which could provide peace and quiet, genuine Kashmir food and an astonishing view — all this on a budget. My research led me to Kings Houseboats: Spot on! My plan was to stay a night or two meanwhile I was looking for the right place to stay but when I arrived at the houseboat and I saw my room, I knew I found the right place! When you are lying down on your pillow looking out through the wide side windows and you see the amazing lotus fields spreading out until the misty mountains of the Himalayan — this is life! See pictures taken from my double bed and from the front deck. Ask for Master cabin: Room 007. When I took a rickshaw (100 rubies — electric rickshaw) downtown to Dal lake and I saw the houseboats all stuck together and the shikara driving around like crazy, I really understood that I made the right decision! The Dunoo family will take care of you. This is a well-respected family, with the heart on the right place! They will try to make the best for you during your stay AND without any hidden plans. The awe-inspiring father will treat you like a son and accommodate all your needs. The mother will spoil you with excellent Kashmir food. The grown up sons will assist you with any travel or shopping enquiries you may have — all this in total harmony. Enjoy! // Niklas

Kings Houseboat is a true gem, exquisitely beautiful and exuding charm at every corner. This family-run business stands out for its exceptional hospitality, with both the family and staff going above and beyond to ensure our stay was nothing short of perfect. During our visit to Kashmir, we unfortunately fell ill, but their kindness and care truly shone. They graciously allowed us a late checkout and went out of their way to help us feel comfortable and still make the most of our time there. It’s rare to find such heartfelt warmth and dedication. Kings Houseboat is an unforgettable experience, and we highly recommend it to anyone seeking comfort, beauty, and genuine care.

The houseboat is exquisitely beautiful and the staff were extremely helpful and courteous. They went out of the way to make our stay comfortable and made sure we could fulfil our itinerary in the best way possible.
