Traveller reviews

“Lovely location. Looking forward to returning.”

Tranquility. The rooms are small but big enough and I say that as a man who stand 2 metres tall. The hotel is maybe 100 metres from the huge sandy beach at Magazia and 50 yards from what, in Skyros, counts for a busy main road. However the traffic, vehicular and human, is modest, barely noticeable. The breakfast option is not for the person who loads up on the traditional western full breakfast. You will find the eggs but little else. That said there is plenty of good quality food offered. It is more for the discerning palate. I would not normally count myself in that group but I really did enjoy the breakfast buffet. It was different and largely healthy. The walk from the hotel into the main village is short but up a steep hill. The walk and a look around the village will go a long way to meeting the average person's daily exercise regime. However this is also an excellent location for anyone with fitness in mind along the lines of jogging, cycling or swimming, as there is easy access to the highways and by-ways of Skyros as well as the sea.

“Can’t wait to go back!”

I loved the hotel environment, the well-kept and fragrant garden, which felt like a paradise. The entire hotel team was brilliant, they all went the extra mile to make me feel comfortable. The place is run super efficiently, and the new rooms have been tastefully renovated. It has everything one needs for a relaxing holiday in the beautiful island of Skyros.

“Very good”

Excellent breakfasts with location virtually on the beach

“A gorgeous hotel in a stunning location close to the beach and steps up to Skyros Town <3”

The reception at the Ammos Hotel is absolutely fantastic. Martina, who heads up the front of house team, was beyond lovely and couldn't do enough to help us throughout the entire duration of our trip. There is also a gorgeous golden labrador named Emma who is always there to make you smile! We stayed in the entry level room type and had the room on the end of the row - number 17. Being in the end room had both pros and cons. We felt tucked away and didn't have any passing foot traffic outside our room, which was definitely a pro - nice and private. However, we didn't have the best outlook so there was a slightly utilitarian feel to our outdoor space, with the paved path finishing abruptly, giving way to a dusty path that the staff used, and the hose being stored in front of our patio. Obviously this isn't really a complaint, as the path has to end somewhere and the plants need to be watered... we just felt that there could, perhaps, be something more thoughtful done with the space. A planter with a flowering shrub or something at the end of the path. That being said, the rooms are absolutely stunning, spotlessly clean and simply furnished using local materials. The bed was really comfy. We loved the look and feel of the bathroom, which has a gorgeous rainfall shower, and the products by Olive Era smell delicious too. The breakfast buffet was absolutely brilliant every day, with a great selection. We definitely didn't go hungry! However, I would recommend some labels for breakfast items as it was quite challenging to navigate, especially as a vegetarian. One heads up to other English travellers though - the teabags are VERY weak, leaving a lot to be desired! I recommend bringing some from home! The salt water pool is beautiful and refreshing and the stunning beach is accessed directly by steps down from the hotel - the sea is even better than the pool :-)
