The family that run the place - vacations are made by people you meet - places you stay are a bonus. This is a great family running their business to ensure the guests are looked after, don't have to worry about whatever their next step in their journey is and just just relax and enjoy the delights of Sissi

Liked Location; Facilities; Tranquility; Food & drink options locally; & Hotel owners! People & locations make our holidays not spas & pool parties so we booked Sissi Mare expecting clean,"no frills" accommodation in a beautiful & authentic setting & that's just how it was. Such a relaxing stay. We got lucky & were upgraded to one of the rooms with massive sun terrace - amazing. In our more optimistic moments we also hoped we might experience the warm Greek welcomes we remember from years ago & weren't disappointed! Sophie & Lefteri are lovely people - typical of all the Sissi residents we encountered. Our chats could be range from 1 minute to 45 minutes depending on what we were up to - nothing forced, just easy going enjoyable chit chat about Sissi, Crete, Greece and even Chicago. We were literally the last guests of the season and once we left the hotel was closing until April but we never felt we were keeping Sophie back - in fact quite the opposite. The hotel is ideally positioned right on the seafront with superb mountain views to the rear. Access to the sea at the hotel is limited but it has a decent sized, salt water pool with sun beds and fixed umbrellas. Hotel Wifi good indoors and out. Best beach for us is Kalimera. Long, sandy & well worth the walk to get there over the rocks from Boufos Beach (trainers or at least good sandals recommended). The village centre is a very short stroll away with loads of restaurants & bars close-by but do take the time to recce whats on offer on the outskirts of the village in all directions e.g. Neromilos with fabulous host Nikki; Taverna Amelia; or Gyroscopio. Closer to 'home' we enjoyed Menios, Paradise Cove with chef Dimitris and Mike's Place with chef Michael Ierapetritis.

Sophia and her family could not do enough for me on my stay.. I loved our little chats. I loved it so much, I am planning to go back next year.
