SIMON “A good place to stay in the old town of Sanliurfa”

I was in Urfa because I wanted to get out to Gobekli Tepe. And Sanliurfa was a bit of a cultural shock after Istanbul and Ankara. The hotel is set in a network of quiet streets which can't really be accessed by vehicles other than maybe motorbike. It is atmospheric and orange at night, actually reflecting centuries of history. I had read some reviews about other hotels in the old town being very noisy. This one is not like that at all - it is very quiet in the immediate area. The reception / dining area is very nicely decorated and the courtyard is lovely. The room is very simple with traditional old walling; the bed was fine although maybe they could do something about pillows. I couldn't stay for breakfast because I needed to make an early start. The property was very helpful in looking after my baggage and is generous in always offering Turkish tea.

The hotel was very centrally located in the heart of the old town. We could easily walk to the bazaar, pool and cave of Abraham and archaeological museum as well as street food and formal restaurants. Parking was a 5 minute walk away in secure carpark (the hotel is in the pedestrian only old town). We booked a small double and it was very cosy - stone walled arch roofed windowless room with all amenities, very authentic! Breakfast was terrific - freshly cooked omelette, spicy egg dish, cheese pies, chips and a variety of cheeses and breads as well as endless tea or coffee. The staff were all very friendly, professional and helpful with any of our requests and always offering tea and fruit whenever they saw us. For the money this is a great option in Sanliurfa, we'd definitely recommend the Babil Antique.

Perfect location — we could walk to all the main attractions and the best restaurants in the city. The breakfast was excellent and felt really high quality. We also loved that they offered free coffee, tea, and fruit in the evenings — such a nice touch! The staff were super friendly and helpful in every way throughout our stay. We had a bit of trouble finding the parking on the first evening due to rush hour and some road closures, but the staff helped us right away when we called. Overall, a fantastic stay and one of the highlights of our trip!

First….the staff. So welcoming, helpful and really nothing is too much trouble. The hotel itself is really unique, they have made the most of all the original features and although it’s not your normal ‘Hilton’ 5 star it is intimate, exceptionally clean and full of character. They have a lovely courtyard perfect for sitting and sipping a Turkish tea and lovely breakfast room. Perfectly located in the old town, just up the road from the bazaar and within walking distance of restaurants, the museum and other must see locations. From conversing with the staff a month before we visited through to the day we left they were so helpful - organising local taxi’s, making restaurant recommendations and always being on hand with a cup of tea! We are so glad that we chose this as our base for exploring Gobekli Tepe and other local sites and experienced real local hospitality rather than just a soulless room in a block!
