The fine print
At begining of street, Rua Tavares Bastos, there are white Kombis (Volkswagen Type 2s) with a blue stripe for public transportation that can take you to the hostel for a cost of R$ 3,50. Due to the high heat and high altitude of where the hostel is located, this service may be favorable instead of walking all the way up with luggage. It is public transportation so payment will need to be made directly to the driver.

This place is special. Very famous amoung locals. Eduard is a wonderful host. I loved most the view, the conversations, the lovely guest and a stable internet. Defitively a place to remember, to come back to - and a true hiden gem.

The best hostel in South America I've been to. This is the vibe of Brazil. It's located in the heart of the favela, and you feel it. On the other side, it's pretty close to a metro station (you just need to go down the hill), so you can easily get to Copacabana beach and district or to the city center. There're plenty of bars and markets around where you can get some food or products. Locals are extremely friendly. The host is an amazing person, very polite, friendly, helpful, he knows everything about Rio and always ready to help. The hostel is clean, showers have hot water, there's also a fan inside the room. The views from the balcony are spectacular because the hostel is on the top of the hill. One of the most important things in South America is safety. And this place is the safest place in whole Rio. There's a base of local SWAT, so the crime level is literally zero. If you want to meet a nice host, to live in a real favela close to average locals, stay in the safest place possible - book this hostel.
