This was my second day in Portree’s independent hostel. Even whilst travelling for work I preferred to stay in the hostel for the friendliness, affordability and convenience. Excellent kitchen, staff are friendly and helpful, dormitory and bathrooms are hostel standard but very clean. Both in kitchens and dormitories there are many opportunities to chat with other residents and I found this to be a very friendly and considerate hostel crowd, helped along by the fact that many of the hostel staff live and cook in the hostel. The kitchen has lovely views out over the harbour and the location is as central as possible in Portree for buses and local businesses.

The hostel is self-catering and we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the kitchen and the number of appliances we could use. The family who ran the hostel seem to work very hard all the time, cleaning, emptying bins, etc to see that the place ran efficiently. and was well organised.
