Wonderful, comfortable, and quiet place—perfect for spending one (or more!) nights in Chã das Caldeiras. Rose and Ciza are very welcoming, friendly, helpful, and kind. I regret not staying more than one night; the place is truly magical, and Rose and Ciza makes the experience even better. Thanks again for the hospitality.

It was such an amazing experience; Rose is super friendly, we hiked with him Poco do Fogo the first time and we absolutely recommend a guide unless you really are an expert on the mountains. We also had dinner and breakfast there, which were both tasty and abundant. He speaks many languages, so probably he will also speak a bit of yours ;) they arranged also the transportation to and from Cha das Caldeiras.

Rose and his family are very genuine people and great hosts. We felt welcome from the very beginning and they made everything possible. Great accomodation (price-value, basic rooms with all you need) for discovering the Pico de Fogo and Caldeira. Rose and his brother are very knowledgeable guides and can organize amazing hikes and tours.

Portela is a small village in the heart of the caldera. Ciza and Rose have built a house where a few basic but characteristic rooms face an internal place where breakfast and dinner are served. The place is simple but very clean and perfect for a few nights in an unbelievable place. You will get to know how these proud and strong people rebuilt their village after the last eruption (2014) and how they make their life there. Rose will guide you to the top of pico de fogo if you like, or he will organize a tour for you. He can recommend a wine testing close by. The wine is produced in fogo and it’s good!!! Go! You cannot regret!
