Vila das Pombas was a really nice place to visit and to stay 2-3 nights. João and his wife were extremely welcoming. João knows a lot about Cabo Verde and Santo Antão and gave us really good advices on transportation and on hikes to do in the area. The house (where they live as well) is new and modern and the rooms were comfortable and immaculately clean. Nice bathroom and shower as well. The breakfast was great, one sharing a big table with other guests. João prepared every morning a really tasty omelette. Breakfast was good, also with fruits, jam, toasts. Only 6 rooms in the house (so far...). It's really a good idea to order in advance the transfer from the ferry that João offers (with a "colectivo" - instead of a taxi -, which costs only 350 CVE - just a bit more than 3 euros per person). This way you don't have the hassle of finding the right driver and transport among dozens of them (Humberto was there with our name and it was really easy, you just have to share the small van with other travellers). João also arranged a taxi with other guests to go to Cova (the crater where one can start one of the most famous hikes of Santo Antão) and the last day he got us a colectivo to Ribeira Grande. In Vila das Pombas we liked to go for dinner or to drink caipirinhas in the hotel "Tienne del Mar" (amazing terrace by the sea) and in "Atelier Bar Restaurante made in Sampadiu" (outside).

Lovely family owned hotel. Great hosts, nice breakfast, big balcony. Few minutes walk from start of the walk to Paúl valley and to restaurants nearby.
