This historical hotel is beautifully situated on a lake and is an old very large English design. It hasn't been upgraded or refurbished, so it has that old world charm. There is few staff. It has the largest and deepest swimming pool I have seen, great to relaxing after a day visiting the ancient city. We walked the grounds, chatted to the gardeners, they have done a wonderful job, they shared fresh tamarind from the trees for us to eat, this hotel is picture perfect with a simply lovely atmosphere, with stunning views of Parakrama Samudraya Lake, and the surrounding nature creates a peaceful and relaxing stay. The restaurant manager was delightful, he ensured that we had the most pleasant experience and looked after us during our stay, as we had half board. The dinner buffet was delicious, so many food choices, I was blown away with the salad options, and the musical entertainment plus the breakfast buffet was great too!

The hotel needs refurbishment. The toilets needs to be redone completely. The rooms are very spacious. Although, there is a lovely view of the lake a veranda would have been brilliant. A good architect would have helped.

I liked the view the lake beside the hotel. Not having WiFi in the room was a bit of a problem.
