This is the most remarkable hotel: the building is gorgeous, full of paintings and artefacts, in fact they say it’s the oldest hotel in Italy. it’s like a museum, and it has a fantastic location on the river in the best part of town. I had a beautiful and huge room looking out over the river with a spectacular view. The staff are delightful and you can order drinks up to the rooftop terrace. And yet - amazingly - it is not a luxury hotel. The breakfast is quite basic, the rooms gorgeous but rather spartan in their way, etc. one of my shutters didn’t open. but that’s just what I liked so much about it. First you can stay fairly inventively in this gorgeous atmospheric place because it’s not a luxury hotel. And second it has none of the vulgarity of luxury. It is all the more evocative for being unembellished.

I very much enjoyed my recent visit to Pisa and overnight stay at The Royal Victoria Hotel as this hotel has a wonderfully nostalgic atmosphere with old-fashioned decor in all the rooms, halls and corridors (including old Bakelite telephones in the bedrooms) and this lovely hotel is ideally situated near the town centre and facing the River Arno. I loved the restaurant/breakfast room and the breakfast with a good choice of hot and cold drinks, pastries and other food. The Royal Victoria is also near to some good restaurants and cafés. I would definitely like to stay here again. Many thanks to everyone!
