We couldn't of been more happy with our stay everything from the location, the farm house, the peace and tranquilly, but the main thing was the owners of the accommodation, simply put they could not do enough for us, everything from supplying a lovely breakfast each day, to logs for the log burner. Any information we needed on locations etc Domingo was our own personal tour guide (-: Oh did we mention the home main wine from Domingos wine cellar...... best we have ever had. We would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and authentic Portugal holiday, no need to look any further than here.

The owner/host Domingos, really excels and make the guests feeling very welcome, and served. Whatever you request for breakfast he delivers at 08 AM at your door. Fresh eggs , fresh bread, milk butter, cheese, ham and marmalade etc, etc. For the wine lovers Dominigos makes some very nice wines which we where luckily be able to enjoy to the fullest (every day). The house is a beautiful schist house fully renovated. The location is very nice in between the hills and wine ranks and olive orchard with a nice private garden. Only a few minutes away from Figueiro dos Vinhos (with all necessary amenities and doctor and dentist). Pedrogao Grande about 13 minutes drive and Coimbra only 30 kilometers away. We highly recommend a stay at Casa de Retiro and not only for the property , environment but for sure also for the hospitality.

We were provided with a delicious breakfast each morning of fresh bread, ham cheese, fruit, homemade jams, and of course a bottle of his extremely wonderful wine, nice simple and very fresh breakfast, the cottage is very simple, consisting of 3 rooms, a bedroom, Bathroom and large kitchen diner, everything you needed was there, plenty of towels, bedlinen, extra blankets, on arrival we were treated to a bottle of Domingos homemade red wine, absolutely gorgeous, plenty was drunk during our stay, our flight was quite late and delayed, then we drove from Lisbon, but we found the cottage without any problems, and Domingos was waiting for us with a smile when we arrived, even though it was nearly 1.30am, The cottage is set in extremely tranquil settings, with the most amazing views, surrounded by fruit and olive trees, while having your morning coffee, all you can hear is the birds and an occasional tractor, and at night there is no light pollution, so you can watch the stars, we were even treated to some shooting stars, I have to mention the amazing furniture in the bedroom, which is very decorative and made us feel like we were sleeping in a castle, and not a little cottage in the country, we were made to feel extremely welcome by Domingos and Linda, and would definitely return, so if you want a complete getaway, then this is it,
