Recently, we celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Store. The hotel is beautifully located right in the centre of Oxford. The reception staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We arrived earlier than expected and wanted to leave our luggage at the hotel, but it turned out that our room was already ready, so we were able to check in immediately. We had booked a room with a balcony, but instead we were upgraded and given a room with a stunning terrace and breathtaking views over the city. The room itself, however, was small and, for a 5-star hotel, rather disappointing. There was not a single chair, armchair, or desk in the room. The mattress and pillows were hard and not particularly comfortable. The bathroom was nicely and modernly designed, with a spacious shower cabin. The shower gels and shampoos were excellent quality and smelled wonderful. What felt very disappointing and lacking in class, however, was the note asking guests not to take these products home, otherwise they would be charged to the bill. Is it really necessary to mention something like that in a hotel of this standard? For our anniversary, we received two complimentary drink vouchers for the bar. We decided to visit the rooftop bar, but unfortunately it was only open from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, which made very little sense. It was the middle of the week — exactly the time when most people go out for dinner. It opened too late for a pre-dinner drink and closed too early for a drink after dinner. When we arrived, there was already a queue of around 8–10 people waiting for the bar to open. Yes, there is also a lobby bar open 24 hours a day, but the rooftop bar has a unique atmosphere and spectacular views. Breakfast was another disappointment. We had the full English breakfast, and I must admit it was the worst full English breakfast I have ever had. One egg with an overcooked yolk, barely warm, a meat patty instead of proper sausages, a garlic mushroom for breakfast?

The room itself was fantastic — beautifully done, comfortable and finished to a very high standard. The location is also excellent for exploring Oxford. What really made the stay, though, was the staff. Every single member of staff we encountered — reception, bar staff and restaurant staff — were absolutely brilliant. Friendly, welcoming, attentive and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. Nothing felt too much trouble, and the service was consistently warm and professional.

Breakfast was very good, lots of choice, freshly prepared. Very attentive staff, very helpful and friendly. My room was lovely, lovely hotel and good location, I would definitely stay here again.

Stylish hotel. Very clean. Excellent communication from hotel before arrival. They went above and beyond to help me celebrate my son's first birthday. The restaurent made a fruit "cake", and they put balloons in our room. The guest experience manager who arranged it was very attentive and friendly throughout our stay. So if you have a special occasion happening during your stay, it's worth telling them before arrival. The hotel also provided a cot and nappy bin, and is accessible for prams. The massages at the spa were very good. We prebooked them online at The Stores own website. The location is central, so it's easy to walk to most attractions.
