Truly a hidden gem! We regret staying here for just one night in transit to another country. It’s just a short drive from a few of Slovenia’s must-sees, but the place feels secluded and is so tranquil and peaceful in a small hamlet amidst the farms and the vineyards overlooking the valley. The cottage is characteristic and cosy, very comfortable, spacious and nicely decorated with all amenities you could wish for with a nice outside terrace and a lot of private space around. Right beneath the cottage is the wine cellar of the vineyard and upon arrival the owner gives an explanation about the wines with a small tasting in the cellar and then hands the key of the cellar and you can take any wine you like right from the wine barrel. Filling up your own bottle costs only 4 euro. The owner does not live on the property but is always available and super friendly. The covered hot tub between the vines is an amazing extra and so relaxing, even on a hot Summer evening when we were there. This place was the biggest surprise on our road trip through the Balkans and we highly recommend staying here.

Our visit to the Skatlar Winery was, in a word, perfect. From the warm welcome to the wonderful hospitality. The owner, Matjaš, is not only an exceptional host, but also a true wine enthusiast and connoisseur who passionately shares his family tradition and the story behind each bottle. The accommodation is beautifully furnished, clean, cozy, and offers breathtaking views of the vineyards. The tranquility that reigns here is balm for the soul. It is clear that every detail has been created with love, whether it is the reconstruction of the original historic houses or the stylish atmosphere of the wine cellar. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the wine tasting. The tasting was conducted in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere, without rushing, with an emphasis on taste and the experience itself. We also learned a lot of interesting facts about Slovenia. We were absolutely delighted by the excellent wines, accompanied by homemade delicacies such as cheese and sausage or wallnut bread. Dear Matjaš, thank you very much for an unforgettable stay. We are taking home not only wine, but also beautiful memories, and we look forward to returning to you again :)
