“Superb”

What a wonderful place to stay. The hosts were generous and friendly, greeting us with a cold drink. The accommodation was perfect and the breakfast was wonderful. One of the best places we have stayed on the Via Francigena across France.

“Lovely stay in gorgeous setting”

Beautiful house by the river in a lovely little village. Comfortable room and great hosts.

“Brilliant welcoming hosts located in an ideal spot to break the drive through France.”

If you frequently travel north/south to/from Calais and need a break, with easy access to the A5: Au Bord de La Dhuy is just that. A sleepy little village, with a river running through it. The breakfast/dining room actually opens on to the river. Quite charming as a location - but the jewels are the owners: Marie Christine, who runs the B&B, and her artisan husband Denis, who pretty much built it. You have secure off street parking, right next to a fabulously decorated room with double bed an en suite shower. There's a couple of comfy chairs and a flat screen TV as well as coffee and tea making facilities too. We were offered a cool beer on arrival, which was most welcome. Their garden, aside the river is enchanting. We had enquired about local eateries - to be fair, all the local towns seem very quiet - but we chose the dine-in option. From a homemade aperitif, homemade sanglier rillettes, we then were treated to a tomato and mozzarella salad (3 varieties, red, yellow and green from their garden), and wild-boar casserole (shot by Denis and his mates), followed by a sumptuous "mirabelles" plum tart - also from their garden. Er, washed down with, you've guessed it, homemade wine! An incredible, restaurant quality meal for a reasonable 25 euros a head. We sat outside under a covered terrace looking at the pool - and I'm pretty sure this may be available for guests too. Prior to dinner, we'd taken a lovely walk around the village and ventured a short distance out of town to see the source of the river. Worth a visit because it was beautiful. We'd arranged an early breakfast as we'd 4 hours drive to Calais for a lunchtime Eurotunnel. Frankly, we were still stuffed from dinner, but were treated to homemade jams (fig, rhubarb and plum) as well as Denis's honey. Hard to find a warmer welcome from a lovely couple - absolutely recommended.

“Perfect stopover. Comfortable quiet room, with wonderful hosts, in a beautiful village location”

The perfect location for a stop off on our long drive home. A lovely quiet and pretty village with a river running through it, and right alongside the house. The room was delightful, the bed and bedding lovely and comfortable and the bathroom sparklingly clean with a great shower. Our hosts Marie-Christine and Denis were charming and really looked after us well, especially in offering us dinner when our terribly slow journey meant we would be arriving late. €50 (cash) for a 3 course meal for two with wine and a lovely home made apple & calvados aperitif was very welcome. We had a short stroll around the very pretty village of Orges that evening and slept very well. Breakfast with yogurt, fruit, bread and home made jams and honey was beautifully presented and very tasty. We would highly recommend Au Bord de La Dhuy, and would definitely stay again. We took the opportunity to take a longer route back to the main motorway and stopped off to visit the lovely Chateau de Grand Jardin in Joinville. At only €6 per person it was great value for a couple of hours stroll around the chateau and it's beautiful ornamental gardens.
