We were attending the Wales v England six nations rugby match at the millennium stadium in Cardiff. Unable to acquire accommodation in Cardiff so newport was second option. The staff were very friendly and did their best to be helpful and accommodating. Check-in time was 2 pm; we arrived a little before as we were unaware of this as the website indicated you could check in anytime. Staff sorted out our room quickly so hardly any wait. The room was small but clean. It's a basic hotel, currently with no facilities, which is made clear on the website. The hotel would benefit from having some money spent on it, which, judging from building works taking place next to the reception area, the new owners are doing. The price of the room is a fair reflection of what you get, and if you are not intending to spend much time in your room other than to get your head down, it's fine. On street parking all around, we managed to find a space quickly and close by. As an aside, it's around a 20-minute walk to the railway station, and trains run regularly to Cardiff with a journey time of around 10 minutes.
