DAVID “Quirky, relaxing and enjoyable stay”

Quirky chateau located a few miles from the lovely town of Nevers. Situated at the end of a long drive (well hidden off the main road), Nathalie and her husband (who doubles up as chef!) have just three bedrooms and as such offer a calm and relaxing experience at a great value for money price. English is spoken although we took the opportunity to try out our flaky French at every opportunity. Nathalie's text message a couple of days before arrival, offering a three course meal at a very reasonable price, was welcome and enabled us to relax from the moment we arrived. The quality of the meal was excellent, washed down with a bottle of local wine, again at a reasonable price. Our room was huge, as was the en-suite bathroom, and it really did feel like we were sleeping in a chateau. A very comfortable bed and good towels/toiletries made this a very enjoyable stay. We would not hesitate to recommend Chateau Maucouvent for an enjoyable and quirky stay at a very sensible price. We will certainly look to stay again on our regular trips up and down France.

Wow, what a unique place! A rare opportunity to experience life in a small chateau. Huge rooms, a feel of the old (not quite Ancien regime), and Nathalie is a wonderful, attentive host, and made us tea on arrival Dinners on site are superb. Breakfast buffet has all you could want. We watched hoopoes nesting on the castle, what a treat. Beds also huge and very comfortable. Quiet nights, tucked away as it is! Great stop for nearby Apremont s/Allier and its floral park!

Our room was spacious with terrasse, the exit to the park, that we really appreciated. The host was very friendly and did provide us with the choice of food that we like to eat on breakfast, that we have asked in advance. The dinner and our breakfast was delicious. It was very warm in the room.

Lovely unspoilt domain with some beautiful old trees. For those who appreciate quietness, calm and nature. Beautiful large bedroom with high ceilings and a very spacious bathroom with a great walk in shower. Dinner was quite exceptional! Great staff made you feel relaxed from the moment you arrived.
