Staying in Tonderoque was a way to be immersed in the true Mexican experience. I only saw a couple of Americans in this development which meant I had to practice my Spanish and had to live more like the locals instead of being catered to as a tourist the way you do at all inclusive resorts. The local food was very tasty and inexpensive. Luis was a great host how would go out of his way to provide us with anything we needed. (For example, when we needed water he was there right away with a jug of water). He had the place kept very clean. Only thing was it was a bit hard for me to understand him as I speak very little Spanish. That being said he usually had his son there as a translator. It was nice having A/C, a nice bathroom and kitchen. It was nice and quiet there and I slept so well during my stay at Residencial Hortus.
