Kevin “Montalma - a peaceful mountain retreat”

Montalma is a beautiful and peaceful mountain retreat situated high up above Monchique and when the weather is clear has stunning views all the way to the coast some 30k distant. It's gardens are rustic and a delight to sit in and relax with a book and chill whilst taking in the fabulous scenery. Maggie and John are also warm wonderful hosts and their food (whether breakfast or dinner) is exceptionally tasty,wholesome and nutritious. From Montalma it is also only a short drive or 30 minute walk to the top of the mountain which is the highest view point in the Algarve.

On arrival, the hosts friendliness, genuine warm welcome , given I had arrival early. They had empathy, as I had walked from Monchique town and they offered without question , my room so to shower. I was surprised how quickly the temperature rosed for the shower’s hot water, as in the countyside “ off-the-grid”. Comfortable bed. The hosts Maggie and John are exceptional, taking time to have a conversation, it makes one feel individual as a guest. Customised dinner & Breakfast, prepared with kindness & thoughts. Homegrown Leeks and Broccoli, home made preserves served at breakfast. Fresh flowers on the tables. Fantastic location, one feels clam the far reaching views are unimaginable to the valleys, and beyond. Great for hiking as accessible directly from the hotel.

The host was incredibly warm and welcoming, went above and beyond to make us feel completely at home. The property is beautiful, perfect for relaxing and the views are absolutely stunning. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
