My 5 friends and I stayed at The Retreat Place for 3 nights at the end of December and had a great time! The hosts were super accomodating and enthusiastic - they gave us great recommendations for things to do and even drove us to the ski slopes so we didn't have to get a taxi. The Retreat Place itself has a warm, welcoming vibe, and the food provided to us there (nabe dinner and continental breakfasts) was nourishing and lovingly made. I particularly loved the communal lounge room on the ground floor - warm and toasty, and a great place to chat with the hosts and relax after a day exploring. I would definitely recommend The Retreat Place to anyone wanted to explore the Bandai/Aizu/Lake Inawashiro area. I'd also recommend checking out their instagram if you want more info!

The cozy inn is the perfect retreat that has provided a weary traveler like me, a refreshing and comforting stay. The owners are warm, passionate, caring and fun, I have had a wonderful time and was provided the most detailed Japanese hospitality spirit: detailed, respectful and warm. Close to many attractions and ski resort. A must recommend.
