Wow! What a wonderful experience! Hozentai offers the Ryokan experience in spades. We stayed two nights in April. The owner and staff all super friendly and helpful, including a good amount of English spoken as they welcome foreign visitors. Our room nicely sized and appointed with a lovely outlook. We loved our indoor and outdoor private onsen. The kaiseki meals were next level and beautifully presented. The location is great too. Set just outside of Kurokawa village it provides a spacious natural setting with easy access and parking.

This is a wonderful opportunity to bathe in a beautiful private hot spring amongst maple woods beside a traditional and beautifully appointed cedar cottage with wonderfully preserved furnishings, including a retro massage chair. It was very memorable. A wander around Kurokawa was also lovely and I was sad to return to the towns.

Everything about this place feels exceptional. The staff are genuinely warm and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive. The chef personally checks in during each meal and even comes out to say goodbye, which adds a thoughtful, personal touch. Dinner here isn’t just a meal — it’s a beautifully crafted experience. This is a place worth returning to.

the best Ryokan and the best dinner/breakfast we had in Japan. The river beside the onsen/room is amazing. They have very few rooms, it seems very cozy and quiet. The public onsen also has both warn and cold water, which is nice and we haven't seen it in other onsens.
