Very pleasant hotel, nice spacious lobby and good rooms. The pool is a bit on the small side, good for a dip on a hot day unless it's full of kids but there is a lovely spacious garden beyond so it was great to stretch out on the sun loungers after a day's sightseeing. (you can't go in the pool without a rubber hat - 3 euros at reception). Next to nothing outside the hotel (Carrefour supermarket 15-20 minute walk) so you will have to pay top dollar for food and drink within the hotel although the 15 euro breakfast buffet was excellent. The 24 or 27 tram runs from a stop very close by and takes you straight to Via Larga close to the Duomo in 25 minutes for a couple of euros. The trams have a contactless system on board so just tap your card against the correct machine (One is for validating paper tickets which can be bought in a Tabacchi and the card one looks more electronic). The hotel offers a handy shuttle bus service for 5 Euros each to drop you at the airport (5-8 minutes away). You would be as well booking it in advance as it's not very big, just in case. The hotel can get you a taxi easy enough and as a price guide I got one from Milan Central train station to the Novotel for 23 Euros.

I liked the regular cleaning of the room and the fact that the problem with the first room was solved quickly, but the second room was not much better, the problem is that the hotel is very old. The staff is good, but the owners are stingy about changing anything for the better. It is obvious that they are squeezing the last juices out of the hotel.
