Our stay at Vila Velha Guest House was one of the best we’ve ever had. We enjoyed every moment. The beautiful, clean, and spacious house had everything you could wish for. The fridge was well stocked for breakfast, there was good coffee, and plenty of space for a family to spread out. We stayed in touch with the host via WhatsApp, and his mother met us with the keys and gave us a tour of the house. There is some parking a short walk away, but we sometimes left the car in the public car park by Hotel Museu, close to the town centre. Be prepared for some uphill and downhill walking — you should be reasonably mobile when staying in Mértola. We enjoyed exploring the town on foot and spotted some lovely birds along the river walk. We would love to come back!

Great apartment that exceeded expectation. Much larger than claimed floor area with lots of space and all facilities. Comfortable bed and good sitting area. Lots of space to spread out. Highly recommended.

Vila Velha is a first class property. It has been finished to a very high standard and has everything you need for a comfortable and very enjoyable stay in the delightful town of Mértola. Ana and João are wonderful hosts and couldn’t be more helpful. They have thought of everything their guests might need right down to good recommendations for places to eat and local wines to drink. It can be a little tricky finding the property as the roads are narrow and windy in the old town but they actually came to find us when we were struggling with the Sat nav directions! Can’t recommend this property highly enough and we would definitely stay again if we were visiting this lovely part of Portugal again.
