I can't even begin to describe how incredible our experience at Tau was. I had high expectations going in, but it completely exceeded them. When we started planning our safari in South Africa, we came across Madikwe, a malaria-free reserve near the Botswana border. It’s just 4.5 hours from Johannesburg by car or about an hour by plane. As I started looking for lodges, I found Tau, and here’s why it stood out to us: 1) The price was very competitive, offering great value for money. 2) All the rooms have a view of a beautiful lake, which attracts a variety of wildlife, from zebras to impalas to elephants throughout the day. 3) They support a local school, and guests can donate or bring supplies to help. When we arrived, we were literally greeted by elephants right outside our room—it was such a magical moment! Over the next four days (with six game drives), we had the privilege of being guided by the amazing Ranger Thuso, who made our experience unforgettable. His passion for the animals and his work was evident, and even on the unusually cold mornings (we were there during a cold spell), we never wanted to leave the safari vehicle. Animal sightings in Madikwe are among the best you’ll find anywhere. The food at Tau was exceptional too—from breakfast to lunch to dinner, everything was delicious, including the drive snacks. And the team, everyone at Tau's team was lovely, attentive and so happy to have you there! The lodge itself is beautiful, and our room was spacious with a fantastic outdoor shower (a top experience, even in the cold weather). Finally, don’t miss out on the spa, I highly recommend the Intonga massage. The only suggestion I’d have is to add a heated pool, which would make this already amazing place even more perfect.

The best thing about the lodge is location and hospitality. And Madikwe is an amazing reserve ! We have been here a few times and will come back for sure :-)

We had an amazing time at the Tau Lodge. The facilities were great, the staff excellent and we loved the game drives. Besides the animals we saw, the thing that really stood out were the cottages and housekeeping.
