The accommodations are basic yet comfortable, featuring eco-friendly amenities powered by wind turbines, solar panels, and a diesel generator. Life here is intertwined with the natural surroundings, so be prepared for the occasional challenges that come with living close to nature—rain, wind, insects, and more are all part of the experience.
Derek’s Place operates without traditional Wi-Fi, but internet access is available through Claro’s SIM cards, which can be purchased onsite for a small additional fee. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-run, where we strive to make every guest feel welcome and comfortable. Location, the simplicity of the accommodations and the cleanliness of the grounds, common areas and our cabana. The owners and staff were very responsive and helpful on the couple of occasions we required them.

It’s a bit of a hike to get there and it’s more Robinson Crusoe than Sandals but if you don’t mind roughing it a bit it’s a nice tropical getaway. Watching full moon rise over the ocean was magical. The island is very undeveloped which is great. Some excellent restaurants and bars nearby.

Such stunning huts, so disconnected from the outside world but immersed in nature. The whole place is very clean. Friendly staff - there was no evening dinners being served during our stay, which we didn’t realise, but Derek was kind enough to serve us some pasta and a beer when we arrived hungry and hot! The pasta we were served, and breakfasts we had, were all delicious. Lots of animals - the parrot and puppy special favourites!
