The rooms… staff … cleanliness and location were excellent
Christopher “Luxury in an idyllic location.”

Our room lived up to its description of ‘Luxury’. It was clean, incredibly comfortable; my wife said it had been ages since she had slept all night. The location was perfect and the Sunday roast was amazing !
Sarah “A charming characterful hotel/pub with excellent staff and dining and drinking facilities”

Lovely warm old fashioned style hotel/pub. Imagine how it is in winter with the fire burning. The location is excellent being in the centre of town and overlooking the South Downs. The rear terrace is a complete sun trap so a very pleasant way to enjoy a drink throughout the day. We were invitee to have our breakfast on the terrace but as the dinning room is so nicely done out we chose to be indoors. Our meal the previous evening in the same room was excellent. The dressed crab perfect and the duck succulent and tasty - as we both said, the triple cooked chips were the best EVER! Our room on the first floor was spacious warm and welcoming with an old fashioned radio playing Classic FM. The bed was super comfy and huge with lovely quality bed linen. The room was spotless as was the small but compact shower room. With beams and sloping floors it has the character of an olde inn with all the comfort. Staff were excellently trained, charming, polite and very helpful and attentive.
Samantha “Lovely, relaxing place for a weekend in Lewes and beyond - would definitely stay here again.”

Well located for access from the train station and for the High Street shops, Castle spotting etc. The hotel itself is stylish, with plenty of charm and the place just oozes comfort. The bed was incredibly comfortable, important if you plan to explore all day long on foot. The staff were friendly, approachable and attentive. The main bar is well stocked, and the space encourages relaxed conversation - i.e. no heavy duty music or screens. Our room had a glorious, sweeping view of the South Downs. The breakfast room is wonderful in it's own right. Breakfast was delicious - we didn't have time for more courses unfortunately, which was a pity. The complimentary macaroons were well received and a nice touch. There's a fantastic coffee bar just around the corner, which helps if you are early checking in. Highly recommend for a weekend away especially via train.
