Lovely room, house and owner. He taught us how to do Japanese calligraphy and write some kanji it was a really nice few days there.

Great value for money but that’s pretty much it. Quite cold during the spring so can’t imagine during the winter. Also what put me back is the ‘city tax’ being charged on arrival 200 yen per person per night, which never been mentioned on booking.com (de facto it was mentioned all taxes were included in price already) so not the greatest experience.

We booked very spontaneously and this was one of the few places available. The room itself was very beautiful and in a traditional Japanese style. There was a huge closet to put your things in. The closet was extremely clean and smelled nice. The floor had a nice feel because of the tatami mats and the bed was so comfortable because I prefer sleeping on a slightly hard surface. The place has two floors, with a shared kitchen and dining area, a bathroom on each floor, and a shower downstairs. There’s also a washing machine, which we didn’t use though. The host was also very kind and welcoming! He showed us everything well and was very open to any questions we had. The location was a bit away from the center, but there’s a bus station right in front of the house that drives to Kyoto Station. There’s a convenience store nearby too.
