This was a great experience, traditional futon beds, beautifully presented food. The monks looking after us were really friendly and helpful. It’s very peaceful, a short walk to the cemetery and other temples. The bathrooms were clean and baths were hot. Fire ceremony, meditation and morning ceremony all open to people staying at the temple.

The monks were very accommodating. They took care in ensuring you know what to do and when. The rooms are comfortable and Onsen lovely (and often not many people there, if any). The meditation and fire ritual experience was enriching.

A really nice shukubo experience - definitely recommend it. You get a sense of the daily life of the monks, and it is well located next to all the main sights in Koya. In the morning, you can participate in two rituals, and they are as depicted on the photos. Hope to be back some day!

The hosts were lovely and very helpful and the meditation / morning ceremonies were a particular highlight. My room was larger than expected and very comfortable, with the accommodation well situated between the town centre and Okunoin cemetery.
