Yoanne “Amazing experience, beautiful temple”
18 Apr 2026
Ekoin temple is architecturally so stunning! Our room was perfect and had a lovely view overlooking the garden. The staff are extremely professional and friendly, they have a clear system for serving dinner / breakfast, and prepping the rooms while you are attending the ceremonies/meditation sessions. Highlights was of course the meditation session, morning prayers and fire ceremony. It’s feels very intimate and it’s well set up you can see everything up close (even though you are with other guests). It was a really special experience. I didn’t love the idea of the shared bathroom but there were toilets on each little corridor and I never had to wait/bumped into anyone while using.
Jacqueline ter Haar “A truly unforgettable and unique temple stay with exceptional rooms and experiences”

Koyasan Syukubo Ekoin Temple is simply incredible. We stayed in a luxurious renovated suite — quite pricey, but absolutely worth it. The room was stunning, with a very modern, high-end bathroom and everything spotlessly clean. The in-room dinner service was an experience in itself, with a wide variety of beautifully presented dishes. Beyond the room, the temple experience truly stood out: attending the morning prayers and the fire ceremony made the stay feel unique and memorable. It’s hard to fully capture how special this place is.
Leanne “Koyasan was a beautiful experience, the town, the temple, if you want to step back in time”

The whole experience staying in a temple and being able to be involved in activites
Ben “An unforgettable experience”

We loved everything about our stay. The temple is peaceful and calm, with exceptional food (all vegan, the best we had in Japan.) The staff are kind and thoughtful, allowing you to participate in prayer as and when you choose. It is also located perfectly in Koyasan, with easy access to the Okunoin grave yard where we enjoyed a night tour with Nori, one of the temple’s knowledgable monks. We slept in traditional rooms and enjoyed the public bath in the morning, an invigorating way to start your day. We cannot recommend staying here more highly.
