Excellent location on College Street (Bidhan Sarani) with tram route 5 and several bus routes running directly in front of the hotel; the blue metro is a 10 min walk. The building is from the British colonial era, its beautiful architecture still shines through in some spots. Staff was very helpful and friendly and tried to accommodate every request, including a very early departure. Everything was clean and working well, including the air conditioning. Bottled water (both big and small) can be purchased at the hotel reception at regular prices – I found this very useful as it can be difficult to find booths selling bigger bottles in the surrounding areas in the late evening. The toilet/bathroom is completely fine once you get used to the concept (the whole bathroom serves as the shower tray, so to speak). Rooms are exactly as advertised and quite big for Indian standards; also, the beds are quite comfortable as well. The room furniture is quite nice. When I arrived, my room (deluxe double) hadn't been vacated yet due to the previous guest having fallen ill. I was provided a replacement room (standard room with AC) that I could move into immediately and was upgraded to my original room a couple of days later. Even the standard room was completely fine. Moreover, the hotel staff was very courteous throughout this process, apologised profusely multiple times and immediately offered me a price reduction due to the circumstances, which I happily took. When breakfast is included, you can just order any item off the breakfast menu free of charge. All in all, very good value for money.
