Hotel Overview

Visalam is a century-old lovingly-restored palatial home in Kanadukathan village of the Chettinad region in Tamil Nadu. The property is located 10 km from the famous Thirumayam Fort – a remnant of the Chettinad dynasty. It offers a 24-hour front desk, free parking on property and a swimming pool.

This room has high ceilings and polished windows, along with floors and walls inlaid with the famous Aathangudy tiles that are handmade to this very day. This is a space where one can experience the subtle elegance of history, where even the bed linen is handcrafted. Few rooms are equipped with a charming balcony overlooking the garden, and each room has an attached bathroom.

This room has high ceilings, gleaming floors and furnishings that give you a sense of luxury that is warm, intimate and rustic – inspired by the styles of the past, flawlessly crafted and made from the finest Burma teak. King-size, comfortable beds with handcrafted bed linen are provided in every suite. All the floors and the walls are inlaid with the famous handmade Aathangudy tiles. Every room has an attached bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the garden where you can spend your afternoons reading, or nights looking out into the sky.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Vishalam. The room was excellent, beautifully maintained, and rich with traditional charm. The staff were incredibly supportive—especially Siva, who went above and beyond to assist us. Our city tour was well-organized, and Siva’s help throughout made it even more enjoyable. Overall, a wonderful and memorable experience.

Its a beautiful house that has been converted into a hotel. All the old cuttings and furniture reflects the heritage at the time.
