We stayed at Amazing Huaraz four times over the course of a month as our base for hiking. They went above and beyond to help us organise things when needed and to have our room and luggage ready when we arrived. Twice we arrived before 5am and once we left at 3am and they couldn’t have been kinder. The rooms were cleaned every day, and extremely spacious, especially if you need space to pack hiking backpacks. One of the best showers we had in South America. Also they’ve just finished the terrace on the roof and it looks fantastic.

Overall, we had a lovely stay that felt a bit like crashing at your grandparents’, if your grandparents had good Wi-Fi, massive rooms, and a fully-equipped kitchen that no other guests ever use. Yes, the place is a little run-down, but in that endearing “it has soul” kind of way. It feels like the man running it once had a dream of building a cute little hotel for his family, and now you get to live in that dream too. Plot twist of the century: after days of friendly Spanish exchanges, he suddenly busts out perfect English the moment we were leaving. Sir, you were bilingual all along? Breakfast is basic but solid, and the Wi-Fi is surprisingly excellent.
