Traveller reviews

“We loved the hotel and will definitely stay again.”
08 Jul 2025
Our room was upgraded to the converted stables and it was really comfy. We only had a light dinner, but this was also lovely and we sat outside. We left early to the airport and therefore cannot comment on the breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and really made a difference.

“For the money I paid it was acceptable but the website paints a far better picture that’s reality!”

Friendly and comfortable. The pillows on the bed and the mattress spot on.

“Lovely Historical Location.”

“Lovely overnight stay in a beautiful setting”
22 Jun 2025
The room we stayed in was called Arundel and was spacious and clean, with good facilities, comfy bed, nice view, in a lovely setting. Check in was speedy and the front desk is open 24/7 presumably as they get a lot of custom from people arriving at Gatwick. The staff were all very friendly and professional. We were told that the bar is open 24/7 but we didn't use it. The grounds are very pleasant and we were able to have a quick explore before bed and met a very friendly black and white cat, although it isn't a resident of the hotel so your mileage may vary. The hotel does have to operate within the design constraints of being a 500 year-old listed building but our room was nicely done and had a lot of character. It didn't have any sort of air con or fan, but with the room being over 2 floors, opening all the windows allowed the hot air to quickly chimney away, so we were able to get a good night's sleep despite high temperatures of around 30C the day we arrived. Breakfast was delicious, high quality and sufficient for us. However, hungrier travellers may question a full English that doesn't come with toast. The dining room was full so we were seated in the lounge which if anything was a bonus as it was very comfortable and a little more private. There is also a continental breakfast option with cereals and pastries, but we didn't try that.
