We were a family of 3 including our teenage son and stayed in one of the presidential suites at Karongwe river safari lodge. We had an incredible experience at this safari lodge. The staff wait on yiu hand and foot and are very welcoming and accommodating and kind. I cannot say enough about them. Jonathan, Polly our driver, Eddie our tracker, Maria, Lucas the manager, Nikiwe the masseur. Just everyone! The suite itself is gorgeous and peaceful and has the best view onto the pond with the 4 hippos and is very private (no 9). The programme is very organised woth 2 set game drives daily at 5 am wake up call and 4 pm. You obviously can skip if needed as we did for 1 or 2 of the mornings. Breakfast lunch and dinner are also set times for a smoothe running of the programme. You encounter many wildlife on the grounds as well. I would 100% recommend this safari to anyone.

What a lovely few nights we had at the lodge. As this was our first safari so before hand we weren’t sure whether we get the experience from a reserve or not. It certainly met our expectations. Included in the package are two game drives per day. One at 5.30am and one at 4pm. You get one if you arrive in the day and one on the morning of your departure, should your flights suit. It’s about one hour from hoedspruit airport and the lodge offer transfers to and from the lodge. These are a bit pricey per person, but not sure there are many other options. You get a wake up call at 5, and breakfast is served right away when you get back from the morning drive. Breakfast was an array of buffet options such a fruit, pastries, cheese, yogurt etc, then a choice of hot options. You then choose your three courses for lunch from the menu at that point. Lunch is served at around 1.30pm. Table sittings are set per lodge so you don’t have to sit with others communally. You’ll then choose your dinner choices. I think twice a week they do a big bbq which was fun. Alcoholic drinks are extra - but really cheap. Our lodge was amazing. We had a comfy bed, a nice sofa and a balcony. We could see into the reserve and into the river bed so we saw loads of animals from our lodge. They tidy when you’re out on your morning drive, and will dress your bed ready for sleeping when you’re at dinner, with the mosquito net etc. There are a couple of pools and lots of sun loungers for the downtime. We both had massages which were great. At night there is a security man to guide you back to your lodge in case there are any wild animals in the lodge at night - we loved this, as it felt authentic, and don’t let that put you off and you’ll be perfectly safe. We had elephants right by our lodge on our last night whilst we were having dinner. We caught them in the river bed by the time we were back. The staff there are all fantastic.

We stayed 2 nights here and loved everything about our stay and more, the executive one bedroom suite was wow. It was so spacious, fresh and had great views from terrace and big windows which we saw monkeys and nyalas going past, the lodge has great facilities, the staff were so friendly and welcoming especially Rudolph engaging in chat during meal times, the food was great and the game drives were a highlight! Seeing the animals in the wild and having George and Gabriel as our tracker and guide really made the experience. We loved the thrill of every drive and not knowing what we were going to see. We loved hearing all the sounds of animals at night when back at the lodge and the views and sitting areas around the lodge. The night guard (didn't get his name) was so friendly and funny had great chats when being escorted back to our room. I celebrated my birthday the day we arrived and got presented with a gluten free cake after dinner and the staff singing, such a special memory. You have every chance to see the big five here, it's a beautiful reserve and well maintained. Also a private dinner was set up for us by a roaring fire on our final night, it was such a lovely surprise and a special way to have some time just us two and reflect on our unforgettable adventure here. Thank you river lodge, we hope to return to SA in the future ♥️

Excellent service and what a wonderful stay, beautiful and the staff really when out of their way to make my wife’s birthday special. Dinner was so amazing. Highly recommend Karongwe river lodge
