Stunning location, beautiful scenery, perfect for exploring Roman relics. They provide a Nespresso machine with pods and made us a lovely Easter cake, but not only that the hosts also left a Easter egg for our children. Super cute, thank you. The kids loved seeing the Chicken too, gave them all names and check to see they were all present and ok each day. Great selection of OS maps, books, games and DVD's too.

Everything, the location, the property, the surprises, the cleanliness, the chickens that visit in the mornings, this is just one of the best places to stay in Northumberland

I would highly recommend staying at the Shepherd's Retreat. The owners were easy to communicate with, provided clear check in/out instructions and lots of information about the area. The cottage was really nice. Absolutely spotless when we arrived. The owners left a welcome basket with juice, wine, local chutney, milk and a homemade cake, which was so nice to have and a really nice touch. The beds are really comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was fantastic. There are lots of DVDs and boardgames too. Plus you can't beat the location, right on the line of the Wall!
